LinkedIn - Company Page

In our last article we reviewed why you should create a LinkedIn Company page for your business. We also gave you a little bit of homework (to create a LinkedIn personal page if you didn’t have one already). If you forgot your homework, here’s the link to get started.

Let’s Get Started

Now that you have a personal page, you’re ready to get started. Follow the steps below to get a basic draft and then we’ll dive into some more detail in the next section. Make sure you’re logged into LinkedIn and then click here to create your Company page.

Select Company and fill in the company details. Choose a good URL for your brand. If possible, make it the same as your username on your other social media sites.

Then, upload your company logo and add your tagline. While some of this information is optional, make sure that you complete it. Complete pages get almost a third more views than incomplete ones.

Now you’re ready to create a page (click ‘Create Page’). Add your URL and a detailed description that includes keywords and your location. These details can be edited later if you need to change them.

As you build your page, this would be a good time to create your first post and to add hashtags that are relevant for your business.

Finally, make sure you add a cover image and start to invite connections to start growing your network.

Now, take a break for five minutes (you’ve earned it) and when you come back, we’ll look in more detail at how we take this bare bones page and optimise it for maximum engagement and business results.

Profiles & Banners

In this section, we are going to look at the items that people will first look at when they visit your page. First impressions last so you need to make sure that yours is a good one.

Let’s start with the basics. You need to have a profile image. Pages that have profile pictures are visited 6 times more than those without so make sure you get that uploaded as soon as possible.

We suggest using your company logo. Just take that from one of your other social media sites or your website and resize it for LinkedIn.

The profile banner above your logo gives you some room to be a little more creative. While it has some specific sizing requirements, other than that, you have plenty of options. You might use some product shots or perhaps some other images that are reflective of your industry.

Try to ensure that you stay consistent with your brand style. For example, if you’re an arts and crafts company, use images and colours that are consistent with that style.

About Us

This section gives space for a concise paragraph (2,000 characters or less) to tell potential customers everything they need to know about your company. Make sure that you use simple, and clear language in this section. It’s wise to consider the keywords for your industry / business and include them in this section as well.

In general, you want the About Us section to tell the story of your company and highlight the benefits of your product or service.

As overall guidance, think about the following questions when you craft your section.

Who are you?

Where are you located?

What products or services do you offer?

What are your company values?

What does your brand stand for?

How can people contact you to find out more?

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with some research on the competition to see what they are saying about their own companies. It might generate some ideas for your own page.

Summary

The profile page, its images and the About Us section are the first things visitors see on your page. Make sure that they stand out and represent your brand in the best possible way.
